Sign the Treaty

More than 140 nations have signed the International Mine Ban Treaty and promise to ban landmines, destroy stockpiles, and define and provide humanitarian assistance to victims.
The United States refuses to sign and ratify the treaty.

Ban Landmines Now

OUR GOVERNMENT MAY NOT BE WILLING TO COMMIT TO THIS IMPORTANT HUMANITARIAN TREATY, BUT WE, THE PEOPLE ARE.
WHEREAS tens of millions of landmines remain a subterranean terror in more than 80 countries.

WHEREAS someone steps on a landmine nearly every 22 minutes.

WHEREAS most landmine victims are innocent men, women, and children.

WHEREAS one third of U.S. casualties in past wars like Vietnam were caused by landmines.

WHEREAS many former military leaders agree that landmines are marginally useful and not decisive in battle.

WHEREAS the international community has acknowledged that the humanitarian cost of this weapon is too high; and

WHEREAS the United Stated refuses to join the International Mine Ban Treaty.


DETERMINED to put an end to the suffering of casualties caused by landmines;

WISHING to do our utmost in providing assistance for the care and rehabilitation; including the social and economic reintegration of landmine victims;

We the undersigned call for:

(1) All states to agree NEVER to:

(a) use landmines
(b) develop, produce, or acquire landmines
Landmine Survivors Network(c) assist or encourage anyone to use, develop, produce, or acquire landmines

(2) All states to agree to destroy all landmines

(3) All states to agree to provide victim assistance to landmine survivors.
